
Marc “MAG” A. Garand
AUGUSTA – Marc “MAG” A. Garand, 50, flew with the angels on June 24, 2021 at V.A. Center at Togus Springs, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. He was born in Augusta on Dec. 30, 1970, son of Benoit J. and Jeannette M. (Colford) Garand.
Marc attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Cony High School in 1989.
Marc worked as a machinist until he joined the United States Air Force in 1991, serving at Loring AFB and in support of Operation Desert Storm.
After being discharged from the Air Force, Marc returned to work as a machinist until his illness left him unable to work.
He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his brother, Bruce Tompkins.
He is survived by his parents Benoit and Jeannette of Augusta; brothers Richard (Sally) Garand of Manchester and Gary Garand of Weston, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Marc’s family would especially like to thank the doctors and staff at the VA Togus ICU and Hospice wards for the care and comfort given to him.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta on July 10 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, outer Western Ave., Manchester.
