LIVERMORE FALLS – It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mitchell Roy Adams, 56, of Leeds announce his tragic death on Sunday evening, June 27, 2021, as the result of a motorcycle accident.
Mitch was born on Dec. 19, 1964 to Richard and Janice (Peterson) Adams in Presque Isle. He was the third born of their five children. The family moved to Augusta for a few years before settling in Weeks Mills early in Mitch’s grammar school years.
As a teenager he spent his summers working on local dairy farms, working the midway at nearby fairs, and raking blueberries. He was also an avid rabbit hunter in those days. Mitch was a 1983 graduate of Erskine Academy where he played soccer, basketball, and baseball.
Following high school, he attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn, where he earned a degree in electrical technology in 1985 and was an integral part of the soccer team. At that time, he also worked in the service department and warehouse at Sears in Augusta, a job from which he had many fond memories. While attending CMVTI, Mitch met his future wife, Karen Page, who was studying radiologic technology at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Mitchell and Karen wed at the Leeds Community Church on August 22, 1987, and established their home in Leeds the following year.
Mitch was employed at Bath Iron Works for the past 35 years. He began as a marine electrician where he spent the first half of his career and also served on the shipyard’s fire department and high-angle rescue team. He later moved into design for the second half of his career with a stint in welding along the way. He joined the Leeds Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 and had recently taken on the role of assistant chief. Mitch was a ham radio operator (call sign N1UVP) and a member of the Androscoggin Amateur Radio Club.
When his children were younger, he volunteered with the local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops. For several years, he and his wife hosted a sledding party for the local Cub Scouts. The party famously included sending large groups of Scouts and parents down the hill in his old Sears and Roebuck canoe.
Over his 56 years of life, Mitch’s other interests included volunteer coaching elementary school soccer, geocaching, wildlife photography, fishing from his boat, hiking and camping with his family at several state parks in Maine, partridge hunts in the North Maine Woods, and deer hunting. In the living room of his family’s log home, he proudly displayed antlers from his 2016 moose hunt. Mitch found great joy in riding his motorcycle.
Mitch will be remembered for his love of family, friends, and life. He was a proud Grampy to his grandson, Angus Charles Adams.
In 2019, Mitch was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Frances Page, with whom he was very close.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen Page Adams; their sons, Travis Adams and wife Tori along with their son Angus of Winthrop; and Curtis Adams of Auburn; parents Richard and Janice Adams of Winslow; sisters Michele Prince and husband Dave of Winslow, Marsha Adams of Chelsea, and Mary Kay Tisdale and husband Greg of Albion, brother, Michael Adams and partner Meynard Patacsil of Humble, Texas; father-in-law, Kenneth Page of Leeds; sister-in-law, Kathy Gleason and husband Edward of Winthrop, brother-in-law, Mark Page and fiancée Tammy Veinott of Leeds; and several nieces and nephews.
