James R. Gagnon
AUGUSTA – James R. Gagnon, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Augusta on July 15, 2021 with family by his side. Jim was born in Waterville on Feb. 8, 1941, the son of Milton and Dorothy (Jolin) Gagnon.Jim married Diane Quirion on July 28, 1962. Together they raised three children, Jeffrey, Paul and Paula. They were soon to celebrate 59 years of marriage.He was employed by Edwards Manufacturing, Statler Tissue and retired from Maine Yankee.Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends as well as camping. Jim and Diane spent many years at Lily Bay State Park and met many friends that were like family to them.Jim was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Dorothy Gagnon; his sister Linda Grenier; and his sons Jeffrey and Paul.He is survived by his wife, Diane (Quirion) Gagnon of Augusta; his daughter Paula Gagnon of Winthrop; his granddaughter, Rebecca (Gagnon) Somerville (who was everything to Jim) and her husband Kyle of Winthrop; his great-granddaughter Tanner Somerville; and stepgreat-granddaughter Ava of Winthrop; his very special niece, Sandy Bilodeau of Gray (who was like a second daughter to him), as well as several nephews and cousins.The family would especially like to thank Willy Veilleux and Dan Charest for their unconditional support, his hospice nurse, Betsy McGlashing from Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, as well as all of the friends that dropped off food and continued to check in on us during this difficult time.Family and friends may visit on Friday July 23, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 24, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta, ME.
