Utility crews quickly restored power in southern Maine Tuesday afternoon after a strong thunderstorm hit the region.

About 4,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers lost power after the storm hit around 4 p.m., but that number was down to fewer than 600 by shortly after 7 p.m. and to 64 by 9:30 p.m., with 54 of those customers in Sagadahoc County.

York County had the most outages earlier Tuesday, with about 375 customers without power, primarily in Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach.

Franklin County had nearly 1,400 customers without power late Tuesday afternoon but by shortly after 7 p.m., that was down to one – in Jay, where at one point, more than 1,200 customers had lost service.
