Spectrum Generations staff recently recognized Virginia “Ginny” Foster, a Winthrop resident, for her 25th anniversary as a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Foster retired from her position with the Winthrop School Department in 1996 and became a full-time volunteer. At 87, she picks up meals at the Cohen Center in Waterville and delivers them to the Monmouth Police Department for distribution by the officers.
Prior to retirement, Foster volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program during the summer months when she was out of school.
“Ginny is truly the gold standard when it comes to volunteers, and we are so grateful for her 25 years of dedicated service,” said Gerard Queally, president and CEO of Spectrum Generations, in a news release from the organization. “Ginny is such an asset, not only to her community, but also to our Meals on Wheels program.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
