Laurier Joseph Poulin
AUGUSTA – Laurier Joseph Poulin, 94, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021 after a long illness.
Larry was born February 20, 1927 in Augusta, the son of Gedeon and Florence (Gagnon) Poulin.
Larry was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Augustine Church.
He was a United States Army veteran, who was stationed in Africa, and in Paris after the liberation during World War II.
He worked for Felix Market for 15 years before opening Larry’s Market, which he owned and operated for 25 years. After closing his store he was employed by the Togus Veterans Administration for 17 years.
Larry’s home was always open to any family member who needed a place to stay or just to visit. There were many family gatherings to celebrate the holidays.
Larry married Lorraine Hamel on June 30, 1952.
Larry was predeceased by his sister, Priscilla Theriault, sister and brother-in-law Muriel and David Tschamler and a son-in-law Anthony “Tony” Willette, Sr.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lorraine Poulin; four children: Theresa Lahey and husband Michael of Litchfield, Louise Stilson and husband Randy of Ormond Beach, FL, Robert N. Poulin of S. China and daughter Lisa Willette of Windsor; his grandchildren: Heather Fitzgibbon, Amber Bilodeau, Wendy Berube, Anthony Willette, Jr. and Eric Willette; his great grandchildren: James Demmons and Cody Shockley. He is also survived by three sisters: Rita Rival and her husband Bill, Jackie Calcagni and Jeanne Morang as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurse Jean, his social worker Erin and his home health care workers Rose and Jake for the care and comfort they provided to our dad.
Per Larry’s wishes there will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, at 12 noon at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers with military honors will follow in the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
