Naomi S. Enquist

WINTHROP: Naomi Starr (Terri/Mammy) Enquist of Winthrop, Maine passed through on August 14, 2021. The daughter of Herb and Helen Knight, born at Blue Haze Mountain in Otis, Massachusetts. She was the wife of Eskil (Ez) Enquist for 42 years. Naomi was an extraordinary loving mother to her daughter, Danielle Robin Crystal and to her son, Scott Matthew Crystal along with her newly adopted daughter, Stephanie Crystal. She leaves behind in her legacy, her two dearest grandchildren, Dejah, daughter of Danielle, and Clara, daughter of Scott. She also leaves behind her beloved stepchildren; Boniesther Enquist of Marlboro, Mass., and Cindy Enquist of Fayette, Maine, and also Ronald Enquist of Thailand. Collectively, they provided Naomi with six glorious stepgrandchildren and nine super great stepgrandchildren. Naomi attended North Yarmouth Academy and then went on to Nasson College in Springvale, Maine, where she maintained high honors throughout her bachelor’s degree program. After that she pursued Masters’ Degree Courses in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. She taught grade school on North Haven Island, Maine and in Piscataway, and New Jersey; then Naomi was employed at a nursing home in Norway, Maine. Following that, she ventured into the career that she loved the most, as a manager of a Crisis Unit at Augusta General Hospital in the capital of Maine. Shortly after marrying Ez, the two enjoyed a vibrant livelihood in the antique profession. They opened an antique shop called Picker’s Palace in Readfield, Maine. It was there, Naomi learned to become an auctioneer along with Ez. The antique business led them to shows all over New England and yearly trips to Florida for the winter months. The two continued their passion in antiques for many decades enjoying the freedom of self-employment and an appreciation for the history in which they cherished. There was never a lack of time to stop at a lawn sale, flea market or make plans to attend an estate sale. They both thoroughly enjoyed making lifelong friends with local and national antique dealers. After semi-retirement, Naomi provided volunteer services at The Cohen Center in Augusta, Maine. Naomi and Ez’s most cherished free time adventures included winter cruise ship getaways to every place imaginable in the Caribbean, and their yearly summer anniversary trip to Eastport, Maine. Mammy was known for truly seeing the beauty in all things, and giving to others, be it freshly picked strawberries or some little trinket that she spotted while out looking for antiques. As a young girl, she discovered her love of horses (1st horse Stardust), which she passed on to her granddaughter Dejah. Christmas was her favorite holiday. It was not about receiving gifts; it was about giving them. Naomi was always doing something. She immensely enjoyed sudoku, puzzles, crosswords, refinishing antiques, and eating delicious food (especially ice cream), but above all else, she loved spending time with family. Quality one-on-one time with family members and close friends was at the top of her preferred list. For many years, Naomi and Eskil made it a priority to spend one on one time with each of their grandchildren enriching all of their lives. “Mammy we love you to the sky and back, over the moon and under the stars, we love you forever more. Love your family.” There will be a Celebration of Life gathering. The date is to be determined in the near future.
