Richard Joseph Poirier
AUGUSTA – Richard Joseph Poirier, 92, of Winslow, passed away at The Togus VA in Augusta, on Saturday August 14, 2021.
He was born in Waterville on June 9, 1929, a son of the late Zelpha (Boulette) and Joseph Poirier. He attended Waterville schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving his country in the Korean conflict. He was an engineer in the Army and was a Bronze Star recipient before being honorably discharged after the war.
In 1955 he married Germaine and together they worked and raised their young family in the Waterville-Winslow area. They were both members of Notre Dame Church which is now part of Corpus Christi Parish.
Richard was a member of Local 7 Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen before retiring in 1993. After a distinguished career in his trade, he enjoyed his camp in North Pond with good friends and family. Later in life, his art became his hobby and passion. Volunteering at the food pantry and at his church brought him great joy. Spending time with his beloved table of friends at The Muskie Center was something he truly cherished.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard Francis Poirier of Winslow, stepchildren Edward Tardiff of Sidney and Gerald Tardiff of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Germaine (Bernard) Poirier; stepdaughter, Sharon Garant; his sisters Theresa Albert, Connie Roy, his brothers Francis, Jerome and Donald Poirier; and very special companion, Eva Deschaine.
Richard would like to thank the staff at Elmwood Primary Care, Maine General Palliative Care and Hospice and The VA Togus Hospital for their heartfelt care of his Dad.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday August 30 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Waterville. Committal services will follow at St. Francis Cemetery with Military Honors. Plans for a Celebration on Life gathering will be announced later.
