A motorist struck and killed a 75-year-old man in the Falmouth Hannaford parking lot Friday morning.

Philip Stevens of Windham died at the scene, police said.

Stevens was struck around 11:30 a.m. by a driver maneuvering through the lot, said Falmouth police Lt. Frank Soule.

It was not immediately clear how the accident happened or what area of the lot he was in, but a team of detectives and a crash reconstruction specialist from the Windham Police Department are working together to understand what happened, police said.

“Preliminarily, this incident appears to be a tragic accident (and) criminal charges are not anticipated,” he said in a statement later Friday.
