LEWISTON – A police officer suffered a broken leg Saturday morning during an arrest on Union Street, according to Lt. David St. Pierre.
St. Pierre said that in the early morning hours of Saturday, officers responded to a home on Union Street after receiving reports of a man who was yelling and screaming.
Two of the officers attempted to take the man into custody, St. Pierre said, and during the process, one of the officers suffered a broken leg.
“(The officer) was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and was discharged later that morning,” St. Pierre said. “He is currently recovering at home.”
The man who was arrested is facing felony charges. His identity was not immediately available.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
