AUGUSTA — Thomas Trafton and Olivia Varney have been awarded scholarships from The Benjamin Apthorp Gould Fuller and Harriet S. Williams Fuller Memorial Fund and The Horace Williams Memorial Fund.
Trafton is a Maranacook High School graduate attending Boston College and enrolled at the Carroll School of Management. Varney is a Cony High School graduate attending University of Maine at Orono majoring in chemical engineering.
Kennebec Savings Bank’s Trust and Investment Management Department administers the funds, according to a news release from the bank.
“These scholarship funds reward the students’ academic achievement and will help defray the cost of college tuition and housing,” said Amos Byron, vice president and trust officer at Kennebec Savings Bank.
Andrew Silsby, president and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank and a trustee for the scholarship funds administered, said the Williams and Fuller families’ generosity helps youth achieve their goals: “We are honored to carry out the wishes of the Williams and Fuller families. These scholarships help local students with their educational needs as they continue onto higher learning and underscore the importance of giving back to their communities.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
