Waterville Senior High School senior William D. Jackson has been named a semifinalist in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Jackson is the son of Susan and David Jackson.
Throughout the nation about 16,000 academically-talented semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million, to be offered next spring.
Semifinalists placed among the top 1% of high schools seniors who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2022 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.
