John W. Bragg

VASSALBORO – John W. Bragg passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughter Terri’s home surrounded by family, on Oct. 22, 2021. He was born May 20, 1931, to Frank Leon Bragg and Vivian Marie Bragg (Abbott)

He was a graduate of Waterville High School, after which he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a radar operator, in Wisconsin. He married Albertine Theresa York of Winslow, while in Wisconsin. Upon his discharge from the military, they returned to Maine and shortly there after he went to work for New England Telephone Company retiring after 35 years to care for his parents.

After the loss of his wife, he started a new life with Carleen Miller.

He enjoyed spending time with all his children and grandchildren, going for long rides as he and Carleen often did. Even traveling to the west coast and Las Vegas for his grandson’s wedding and graduation at Parris Island. He always loved having cows on his family farm and when his grandson got cows, he enjoyed watching him work on the farm, even helping with the haying up until this year. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.

He was an active member of the Masons for 66 years, being a member of the Vassalboro Lodge and Waterville Lodge, he was very involved until the last couple of years when his eyesight started failing him.

He is survived by his five children, John and his wife Patti of Clyde Texas, Michael, and his wife Susan of Vassalboro, Kathi Hawkins of Clyde, Texas, Terri McPherson, and her husband Conrad of Vassalboro, and Cheryl Csengery and her husband Joe of Vassalboro. He is also survived by his stepchildren Brenda Blair and her husband Michael of Clinton, Jeff Miller of China, Wayne Miller of Winslow, and Ken Miller of Winslow; along with 26 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Albertine, his second love Carleen; one grandson, Andrew Keaten; and two stepsons, Steven Miller and Bruce Miller

There will be a celebration of life Sunday Nov. 7 at noon at the Waterville Masonic Lodge, 250 County Rd., Waterville. His committal will be Saturday Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Nichols Cemetery on the Oak Grove Rd., Vassalboro, ME 04989.
