Kenneth E. Fortin

AUGUSTA – Kenneth E. Fortin, 77, of Campbell Street, died unexpectedly at his home on Oct. 22, 2021.

He was born in Augusta on Jan. 26, 1944, the son of Henry D. Fortin and Marie Rose (Pare) Fortin.

Ken was educated in Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1962. He later received his associates degree from the University of Maine.

Ken was a career serviceman having been employed by the Maine Army National Guard and Maine Air National Guard for many years and was awarded multiple honors and awards.

In his younger years, Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoe trips as well as riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. Ken was an avid reader with a passion for history and was often known for sharing his wealth of knowledge with family, friends and strangers alike. With his sharp wit and, albeit dry, sense of humor Ken often left smiles on the faces of people he met daily.

He found great joy in helping others and made a lifetime of charitable contributions to many organizations and often volunteered at the Augusta Food Pantry.

Ken was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Joseph Ronald Fortin and his sisters Annette Rossignol and Diane Gallant; and niece, Michelle Gallant.

He is survived by his sister, Gloria McCann; his nephews Shane Staples, Michael Rossignol and Jonathan Gallant and his nieces Monique Rossignol and Katie Gallant.

There are no planned visiting hours. A Celebration of Life is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 3, 2021, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Committal prayers will follow in the committal shelter at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
