BELGRADE — Voters on Tuesday chose Carol Johnson to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Selectpersons, according to unofficial results provided by Town Manager Anthony Wilson.

Johnson earned 650 votes and opponent Nicholas Alexander received 521 votes.

At a candidate forum last month, Johnson said she’s a strong believer in civic engagement and wants to help move Belgrade forward. She said a key issue facing the town is maintaining and improving the quality of area lakes, because they are a boon to the local economy.

Johnson said she would be interested in using federal American Rescue Plan funding to improve water quality without affecting the town’s budget.
