Sharon Rose (Harvey) Corbett

AUGUSTA – Sharon Rose (Harvey) Corbett, of Augusta passed away on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta following the onset of numerous medical issues since the Spring of 2021. She was 75.

Sharon was born in Belfast on Nov. 7, 1945, the youngest of 12 children to Elroy and Evelyn (Dyer) Harvey.

Sharon met a little boy named Daniel “Danny” Corbett at around the age of 5. They attended schools in Belfast, graduating together from Crosby High School in June 1964. Sharon and Danny were the absolute definition of the word “soulmates.” They married on Sept. 26, 1964, continuing to live in Belfast, with a brief time in Searsport until 1974 when they permanently moved their family to Augusta. They had three children, Lila in 1965, Caroline in 1967, and Jason in 1973. Early on, in their love story Danny gave Sharon the nickname “Horge.” There are a few theories of how this nickname came about, but she often said it would be odd if he addressed her as anything else. Danny and Sharon recently marked their 57th wedding anniversary.

Sharon worked early in her adult life at Penobscot Poultry in Belfast. Upon moving to Augusta she helped support her family with babysitting children who at the end of the day did not always want to go home. She cared for them as if they were her own. Sharon also spent many years cleaning houses and making many friends along the way. They all viewed her as more than a cleaning lady, but a part of their extended families.

To write that Sharon loved her family and close friends would be an extreme understatement. Her love was genuine, deep and unconditional. It is no secret that she loved to laugh. One thing the family has heard repeatedly since her passing is that her laugh was infectious, and it was. She always found the humor in situations and there was no funnier comedian she enjoyed more than her husband, Danny. She said that no one made her laugh like him. Their lives had periods of hardship, but as a positive, strong person, Sharon always saw the good in her days and was thankful for what she and Danny had worked hard to build. Sharon was the center of the family dynamic, always making sure that despite any circumstance whether it be distance, time, or complicated decisions, the family was going to stay connected.

Sharon loved taking pictures and videos, making sure to document every single moment and life event she possibly could. This passion for photos really took off when she and Danny had grandchildren starting in 1984. Sharon looked forward to attending important events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They all knew Grammy was there just by following the biggest camera flash! Sharon would tell the story that her mother, Evelyn, was “Grammy” to everyone whether they were related or not. Sharon carried on that tradition as she was “Grammy” to many of her grandchildren’s friends as well. She was always genuinely interested in knowing each one of them.

Sharon never had any desire to get a driver’s license, so she didn’t. Her fear of driving did not stop her from getting on an airplane when she and Danny went on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii in 1990. They had sacrificed so much over the years to be able to enjoy what Sharon called “one of the most beautiful places on earth.” She enjoyed that trip so much, that she and Danny later took a trip to the Bahamas. Together and with friends and family, they also made numerous trips to Nashville, Tenn., even as recently as 2019 for their 55th wedding anniversary. Country music has always been a soundtrack for their lives together, along with “the old rock and roll” of Ricky Nelson, Johnny Cash and others. Sharon loved to listen to her husband Danny sing and play his acoustic guitar, whether he was performing on stage, in their living room, or at friends/families’ homes. She beamed with pride (and took many photos) when Danny would perform with their grandchildren.

Sharon never smelled a flower she didn’t love. She had a green thumb and took great pride in her flower garden every spring and summer. Sunflowers and Roses especially come to mind when thinking of her. Yellow was her favorite color and every May her garden included a gift of a hanging basket of yellow flowers.

Sharon’s cooking was and is still talked about, especially among her grandchildren. Everything always tasted better at Grammy’s house. She enjoyed making each one’s favorite and no one was ever to leave the house hungry!

Sharon read her Bible and found comfort in many scriptures. One of her favorites was Isaiah 30:21: “This is the way, walk in it.”

Sharon was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Elbert Lear, Elmer Harvey, Burton Harvey, Tom Harvey, Elroy Harvey Jr., Edward Harvey, her sisters Alfreda Harvey Lewis, Ida Harvey Morin, Barbara Harvey Varney, Wilma “Billie” Harvey Thibodeau Gomm, sisters-in-law Mary Bailey and Laurel Corbett; mother-in-law, Louise Palmer and father-in-law, Judson Palmer.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Daniel A. Corbett of Augusta; a daughter, Lila Beaulieu and her husband Steven of Augusta and their children Cady Beaulieu and Eric Beaulieu; a daughter, Caroline Blais and her husband Mark of Augusta and their children Richard Blais, Alana Blais, Daniel Corbett, Joseph Stump, Cameron Wilson and his wife Shena, Johnny Blais and his wife Carolyn, Chris Blais; a son, Jason Corbett of Augusta and his children Mariah Mitchell and her husband Cody, Emily Corbett and her wife McKayla, and Jacob Mills-Lightner; one sister, Edith Phillips of Belfast, brother-in-law, Edward Corbett of Camden; and many nieces, nephews; and great-grandchildren.

At Sharon’s request, there will be no funeral service. There will have a private graveside service with immediate family.
