WINTHROP — A Veterans Day ceremony, co-hosted by the Winthrop Maine Historical Society at the Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. American Legion Post 40, is planned for Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center on Main Street.
All are welcome to bring a picture of their favorite veteran or veterans from the Winthrop area, or a veteran who has had an impact on Winthrop, and share their story with others.
Doors open at 1 p.m., with a ceremony at 4 p.m. by the American Legion with assistance from Winthrop Boy Scout Troop 604, Scout Pack 654 and Winthrop Girl Scout Troop 141.

This event will feature pictures and stories, such as from the May 20, 1927, and the May 27, 1928, memorial services at Glenside Cemetery, to be on display in the Winthrop History and Heritage Center from Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 11-13.
People can stop in, call or email to receive their “My Favorite Veteran” information sheet with additional details. This is a free event; donations are welcome.
The Winthrop History and Heritage Center is open 1-7 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
