ROCKPORT — The latest lecture of the weekly Alumni Lecture Series hosted by Maine Media Workshops + College, “Inside/Out“ is due to feature photographer Lola Flash online from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Flash will discuss her art, activism and practice, firmly rooted in social justice advocacy around sexual, racial and cultural difference.

The lecture is hosted by photographer and Columbia University professor of African American Studies Charles Daniel Dawson in conjunction with the Social Equity and Inclusion committee.

Working at the forefront of genderqueer visual politics for more than three decades, Flash’s work challenges stereotypes and gender, sexual and racial preconceptions. An active member of ACT UP during the time of the AIDS epidemic in New York City, Flash was featured in the 1989 “Kissing Doesn’t Kill” poster.

Her art and activism are connected, fueling a life-long commitment to visibility and preserving the legacy of LGBTQIA+ and communities of color worldwide.

Flash has work included in collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Brooklyn Museum and MOMA. She is a member of the Kamoinge Collective.
