Muriel P. Smiley

FARMINGDALE – Muriel P. Smiley, 89, of Main Avenue, Farmingdale and formerly of Chase Avenue, Augusta, , died Dec. 18, 2021 at Captain Lewis Residence after an extended illness.She was born in Augusta, Maine on July 2, 1932 the daughter of August and Odile Poulin (Poulin).Mrs. Smiley attended Augusta schools. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years by LaVerdiere’s Drug Store in Augusta. Muriel enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and staying current with friends. She was meticulous about her appearance and took great pleasure matching jewelry to her outfits. She was predeceased by her first husband, Mahlon W. Tavernier and her second husband Alvin M. Smiley Jr.Surviving is her daughter, Claire Withee and husband John of Westford, Mass.; her son, Paul Tavernier and wife Donna of Augusta; grandchildren Ayla, Lara, Alanna, Hillary and Nicholas as well as seven great grandchildren. There are no planned visiting hours. A private service will be held at a later date.Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.
