PALMYRA — A residential garage on Davis Road was heavily damaged by fire on Friday.
No one was injured and only the back of the garage sustained fire damage because firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the rear, according to St. Albans’ fire Chief Jamie Crocker. There was some smoke and water damage to the front of the garage at 65 Davis Road.
There was another building about 10 feet away on the front side of the garage that did not sustain any damage.
“It was a really good knockdown, went fairly quickly,” Crocker said.
He said it was difficult to determine the cause of the fire but it appeared to have started in a corner where a wood stove was located.
Palmyra contracts with other area towns for fire protection, including St. Albans, Hartland, Newport and Pittsfield.
Crews were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. and the scene was cleared shortly after 4 p.m.
The property is owned by Carlton and Cynthia Preble, according to Palmyra tax records.
