Vose Library’s next “Vose or Virtual Wednesday” event, featuring storyteller Carol Dana, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, via Zoom.
Dana is mother of six children and grandmother of 14 grandchildren. She spends her time teaching language, writing, doing crafts, spending time with grandchildren, basketmaking and walking with her dog. His name is Cacahkenom, meaning “my soul.”
She tells traditional stories she has researched, and collaborated on publishing “Transformer Tales” Vol. I and II as told by Newell Lyons.
Dana will talk about the art and tradition of storytelling, what she’s discovered about it, and how her people have used it in the past and continue to do so. She will tell a story in Penobscot and translate it and talk about Penobscots on the Penobscot River and the role of oral tradition in her tribe.
A few short stories will be shared from “Still They Remember Me.”
Closed captioning will be available. To receive a Zoom registration link, call 207-785-4733, email librarian@voselibrary.org or stop by Vose Library at 392 Common Road in Union.
In-person events are subject to transition to fully virtual should COVID-19 impact the library’s ability to meet in person.
