As we bid farewell to a tumultuous 2021, there’s much to be grateful for now and in the year ahead. I’m thankful for the revitalization of Waterville’s Main Street, the Waterville Public Library, the Alfond Youth and Community Center, Railroad Square Cinema, and new restaurants and cafes — especially the April opening of Sunrise Bagel.
If you’re like me and need a break from the constant barrage of bad news, the bagel shop put will your mind and stomach in a wonderful place. The café is a gem. The warm, wonderful bagels served by a warm and welcoming staff is a small but vital part of the fabric of what makes my hometown of Waterville a fabulous community. I’m grateful indeed.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
