AUGUSTA — A fire early Sunday on Augusta’s east side destroyed a freestanding garage and two vehicles inside it.
Battalion Chief Brian Chamberlin of the Augusta Fire Department said firefighters were notified shortly after 3 a.m. of the blaze at 2 Caswell St.
Chamberlin said Augusta firefighters, assisted by the Chelsea and Togus fire departments, extinguished the flames quickly. The departments left the scene at about 4:30 a.m.
“The garage and the vehicles are a total loss,” Chamberlin said, adding the fire caused minimal damage to the siding on the house.
He said the Augusta Fire Department was investigating the cause of the fire, adding there was no indication Sunday of foul play.
The Hallowell Fire Department staffed the Hartford Fire Station in Augusta during the blaze.
