Firefighters douse hot spots Thursday following a fire that destroyed the Community Market and Bakery at 368 Thorndike Road in Unity. David Warren/Morning Sentinel
UNITY — The Community Market and Bakery, a popular general store in Unity run by the Amish community, was destroyed by fire Thursday.
Heavy smoke could be seen for miles as firefighters from a number of communities, including Unity, Thorndike, Troy and Winslow, battled the blaze at 368 Thorndike Road. Fairfield police also responded to the fire.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 3 p.m., dousing it from the ground and a ladder truck.
It was not clear Thursday if anyone had been hurt in the fire.
Unity fire officials said they were unable to provide further information.
