A Winthrop Maine Historical Society business meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, via Zoom.
The society is displaying photographs Roland LaVallee of Winthrop took for the Kennebec Journal newspaper, according to a news release from the historical center.
The exhibit features the “Blizzard of ’52” when, that Feb. 18, the KJ reported that thousands were “stranded on the Turnpike, train rescues 125 and heavy fall blocks roads!”
Center members are choosing new products for the gift shop and changing out the history displays to the seasonal theme of Winter in Winthrop. LED lighting has been installed throughout the center.
Members also are cataloging every artifact that has been donated to the society. The database will hold the stories associated with each artifact for easy sharing with the community.
This year’s next planned major project will be painting the whole exterior of the center using monies from a grant that society received. The society is looking for painters for this project; call 508-320-1514 for more information.
The center is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
