Eugene H. St. Peter

WATERVILLE – Eugene H. St. Peter, 80, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2021 at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville.

The son of Alfred and Louise (Bishop) St. Peter, born Oct. 11, 1941, Gene was a lifetime resident of Madison. He graduated from Madison High School in 1961 and married Patricia Daigle in September of the same year. After attending auto body school in Old Town, he returned to Madison and worked in Merle Waugh’s garage. He traveled the state with Ferris Music, followed by a stint at Ferris Grocery, where he began his study and apprenticeship toward becoming a Master Electrician. He completed his Journeyman hours with Edgar Strang and Fred Chapman before founding Gene’s Electric, a business he maintained throughout the rest of his working life.

Though Gene experienced many struggles throughout his lifetime, he lived a rich life. He enjoyed antique cars, auctions, and keeping his lawn perfectly mowed. He was known for his sarcastic wit, turns of phrase, and cheeky nicknames. Despite his gruff exterior, Gene was consistently generous with his work and actions and was a friend to many.

Gene was predeceased by his first wife Patricia (1943-1980) and later married Rose Marie (Roy) St. Peter (1940-2015) with whom he enjoyed many years of travel and several winters in Florida. In addition to Patricia and Rose, he saw the passing of his older siblings Orin, Claudine, Leo, Clifford, Gilbert, Ethelyn and Evelyn.

He is survived by his son Mark and his wife Sharon and their children Patricia and Amelia of San Francisco; his daughter Marla Baruch and her son Wyatt from Madison; sister-in-law Paula Beach from Norridgewock; in-laws Roland and Linda St. Pierre of Livermore; along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dick Sabol, Nage Franzose and Rob Baruch and George Currie who were always generous with their time when Gene had a project he wanted to do.

We wish farewell to a one of a kind father, grampy, pépé and friend. We will forever remember his clever stories and lively antics with a smile.

A graveside service will be held in the spring.
