John “Jack” MacLean received the ceremonial Embden Boston Post Cane Jan. 28 from the Embden Historical Society, at his home with his children present.
MacLean retired as lieutenant the Wrentham Masschusetts Fire Department in 1990, and moved to Cracker Box Farm in Embden with his wife and mother.
His roots go deep in Maine. His mother was born and raised in the state, and he lived in Maine briefly in his youth. He is a regular Mr. Fixit, loves boating on Embden Lake, and is a member of the New Portland Lions Club, according to a news release from the society.
The MacLeans created a rock-pit Clam Bake every Labor Day weekend, which started as just a family event and has grown to more than 100 people.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
