Robert A. Tondreau

AUGUSTA – Robert A. Tondreau, 84, of Augusta, Maine passed away on Feb. 2, 2022, after a brief illness due to natural causes. He lived the old adage “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” He worked alongside his parents on the family farm and in the construction business, Tondreau and Sons Gravel. He was self-employed for 35 years in the gravel industry sharing his knowledge with his sons until his retirement. Robert was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He enjoyed every day hauling material and working with the horses. He enjoyed motorcycle rides through New England and snowmobile rides through the Maine woods; he was a long time member of the North Augusta Trailblazers. He had a love for the horses and shared that love with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association and Maine Harness Horseman Association and owned several Standardbreds. Each year he looked forward to the fair circuit. He loved camping out at the Windsor Fair and Fryeburg Fair to watch horse pulling and harness racing with family and friends. He never met a stranger and always like to hear and tell a good story.He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Marie Ange Tondreau; and his son, Kenneth Tondreau. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lauristine; son Keith, his wife Jeanne, and their family, Katie Lynn, Kaydence, Devin, RebekahSue and Callie Jeanne; daughter, Julie, her husband Cliff, and their family, Matthew and Taylor; and daughter Tina, her husband Howard, and their family Greg, Caitlin and Rose. Per his wishes there will be no service or visiting hours. A graveside ceremony will be announced at a later date.Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, Maine.
