Leanora Dawn Strickland
WATERVILLE – Leanora Dawn Strickland was born in Kingfield on Nov. 7, 1930. She told many stories of the wonderful adventures growing up in Kingfield with her sisters. She spent most of her time enjoying the outdoors.She graduated from Kingfield High School and later married the love of her life, David E. Strickland, on May 29, 1958. She worked alongside her husband at the Dowel mill owned by David and his brother, Gerald. Dawn enjoyed many activities with her husband David. They worked side by side, hand in hand, all throughout their lives together. They had competitive spirits whether at playing cards, bean bags, or a game of pool. She always had a big smile and a twinkle in her eye when she was on the winning team.After their retirement from Dirigo Dowel Mill, they spent their summers at their camp in Embden and at Round Mountain Pond. David always said Dawnie could outfish and outhunt him anytime. They spent their other six months at their home in Bonita Springs, Fla.. They always enjoyed time spent with their friends and neighbors.Dawn enjoyed her Wednesday lunches with the “Girls” which included her sisters and cousin Wardy. She loved being the chauffeur and their excursions after lunch took them all over the countryside. They were always needing to investigate some place they had heard about.She was predeceased by her husband David E. Strickland; parents, Vaughan and Laura Davis, in-laws, Forest and Minnie “Faye” Strickland; sister Hilda and her husband John Jalbert, sister, Olive and her husband Bernard I. Newell, brother-in-law John Hagerstrom, brother Robert Davis, brother-in-law, Gerald Strickland and his wife Ruth, brother-in-law Raymond and his wife Gloria.She is survived by her sister Louise Hagerstrom of Strong, cousin Dean Ward Atwood and her husband Kenneth of New Portland; daughter-in-law, Lousie Strickland of Bingham; grandchildren Garrad Strickland and family of Farmington, Amber Eastman and her family of Bingham, Whitney Plog and her family of Bingham, and Kassandra Pierce and husband of Topsham; and many nieces and nephews.Many thanks for the wonderful care and love by the excellent staff of Lakewood Manor in Waterville.A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.Arrangements are under the care of Dan & Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service of Skowhegan, ME.
