Charles F. Gove Jr.
WINTHROP – Charles F. Gove Jr., 92, of Winthrop, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at the Androscoggin Hospice House. He was born in Farmingdale, the son of Charles Sr. and Elizabeth (Akerley) Gove.
Charles graduated from Edward Little High School and served in the United States Navy. He was a long-time employee of CMP, retiring as Augusta District Manager. After retirement he worked part-time at Community Telephone in Winthrop.
Community service was important to Charlie. He spent many hours volunteering at the Winthrop Food Pantry and was an active member of the Winthrop Congregational Church and the Winthrop Rotary Club.
He was a loving father raising three sons, and was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Charlie was an avid reader, an accomplished athlete and a fan of European soccer.
Charlie is predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Gove and is survived by three siblings, Joyce Higgins and husband Bill, Beryl Ayotte, Norman Gove and wife Pat, and sister-in-law, Joan Prue. He is also survived by his three sons, Michael Gove and his wife Suzan of Gaithersburg, Md., Stephen Gove and his wife Sheila Comerford of East Winthrop, and James Gove and his wife Lisa of Scarborough; seven grandchildren, Sarah and husband Tyler, Christopher and wife Lindsey, Evan, Hilary and fiancé Charlie, Nathaniel and wife Rochelle, Molly and husband Brandon, Mikaela and husband Joshua; three great-grandsons, Colin, Cooper and Mason; several nieces, nephews; extended family and many dear friends.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.
