Eric S. Bowness

AUGUSTA – Eric S. Bowness, 56, died Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health following a long illness. He was born in Gardiner, on August 9, 1965, a son of Walter S. Bowness and Joan C. (Veilleux) Cogswell.Mr. Bowness was a graduate of Gardiner Area High School, class of 1983. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Gulf War.He had been employed at Drilling and Blasting Specialist for several years.Mr. Bowness was pre-deceased by his father, Walter S. Bowness and his step-father, Jim H. Cogswell.He is survived by his wife, Gretchen M. (Woodbury) Bowness of Augusta; a step-daughter, Ashley Butler of Coffee Springs, AL; a step-son, Zachery Butler of Coffee Springs, AL; his mother, Joan C. (Veilleux) Cogswell of Chelsea; a sister, Laurie J. Black of Gardiner; two step-brothers: Scott Bowness of Bristol, TN and Curtis Bowness of Knoxville, TN; a step-sister, Jessica Bowness of Bristol, TN; an aunt, Lena Beaudoin and her husband Norman, an uncle, Roland Veilleux and his wife Gloria. as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins including nephews Randy and Joshua Pierce.There will be no public visiting hours. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 1 PM at the Augusta Church of Christ, 91 Eastern Ave., Augusta. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt.
