Mary Louise Burke

TROY -Mary Louise Burke, 92, died March 2, 2022, in Troy. She was born in 1929 to William J. Burke and Alice (Parker) Burke in Portland, Maine. She attended local schools, graduating from Deering High School. She was employed for 30 years at First National Supermarket Distribution Center and 12 years at the University of Southern Maine at both the Portland and Gorham campuses. She retired in 1991 and moved to Troy, Maine, to live.Mary was accomplished in knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and quilting. She also was an artist, participating in nine art shows on Congress Street in Portland. Her work included oils, watercolors, ink, pastels, and charcoal.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life of 64 years, Alton Danforth of Troy.She is survived by her sister, Patricia Carlista of Auburn; nieces, Anne Dixon (Mark) of North Yarmouth, Theresa Boucher (Daniel) of Lewiston, Maureen Gallagher of Fullerton, California, and Susan Gallagher. Also surviving is nephew, Dr. Stephen Gallagher (Suzanne) of Scarborough; nephew to Alton, Kermit Danforth Jr., and his son, Stephen; and stepbrother to Alton, Stephen Myrick and wife Cyndi, both of whom provided much time, love, and care to Mary.A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
