LITCHFIELD – James “Jim” Burton Stoddard Jr., 74, of Litchfield, Maine unexpectedly passed away March 9, 2022. Jim peacefully went to the Lord at Hospice of Southern Maine after a major stroke.

A popular graduate of Gardiner High School. Jim was an avid gardener who loved to share all that he planted. He loved rare flowers and sharing them too! When he wasn’t out in his garden, Jim was always volunteering! He gave most of his free time to the local food bank helping others and also volunteering at The Litchfield Fire Dept. He was also a long-time member and Trustee of North Baptist Church in Litchfield.

Jim retired from a career in the department of corrections where he picked up many lifelong friends. He really enjoyed his time serving there and deeply cared for the prisoners. After retirement he continued to work for Gowell’s in Litchfield where he earned the perfect attendance award. A special thank you to the staff at Gowell’s for your quick work of noticing Jim’s absence and checking on him. Your actions gave us the important time needed to say goodbye. We will forever cherish what you did!

Jim will be best known for being a wonderful friend to all. He was a kind, gentle man with a warm smile, who loved his dog. We were all better to have known him and grateful to God for sharing him with us. He will be greatly missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held at North Baptist Church in Litchfield on Sunday March 20, 2022, at 1 p.m.. All are welcome!

In lieu of flowers, donations are being sent in Jim’s name to the Litchfield Fire Department.
