SKOWHEGAN — A Madison man was seriously injured Tuesday night when he was hit by an SUV while crossing a four-lane road in Skowhegan, according to police.
Eric Casson, 34, was crossing Madison Avenue, near the intersection with Silver Street, at about 10:30 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound 2019 Jeep Compass driven by Sandra Burns, 69, of Solon, according to Chief David Bucknam of the Skowhegan Police Department.
The incident was reported by rescue workers with the Anson-Madison-Starks Ambulance Service, who came upon the scene.
“(Burns) explained she had been traveling south on Madison Avenue and did not see Eric crossing the street, as he was wearing dark clothing,” Bucknam said.
Casson suffered a head injury and fractures to both legs, according to officials. He was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated in a special care unit.
Police said they were continuing their investigation and no charges had been filed.
