WINTHROP — The Bailey Library plans to celebrate poetry month with Poets in the Library at noon Saturday, April 30, at 39 Main St.
The event focuses on the recently self-published chapbook “A Simple Abundance” that features more than a dozen local poets, according to a news release from the library.

The poets featured in the chapbook will read from their work in the King Event Room on the first floor of the library.
An open mic session will follow.
The event and chapbook were organized by Claire Hersom, whose work has appeared in Yankee Magazine. She in 2011 was awarded an Emerging Artist Grant in Literature from the St. Botolph Club Foundation of Boston.
Her poem “Norman Lee” was awarded first place by the Maine Poets Society as Best Poem about Maine in 2007.
The program is free and wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 207-377-8673 or visit baileylibrary.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
