Florence Elizabeth Moore
HALLOWELL – Florence Elizabeth Moore, 95, passed away April 23, 2022, at Maine Medical Center, Portland after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester, Maine, Feb. 13, 1927, to Arthur R. and Arvilla Griffin Trask.
At the age of 6 upon the death of her mother, she moved to Hallowell to live with her grandparents, Stanley and Estella Braley Griffin. She was educated in Manchester and Hallowell schools and graduated from Hallowell High School in 1946. Following graduation, she worked in the office of the Hallowell Shoe Company.
She married Arthur R. Moore, Jr. on May 14, 1949, and was a homemaker for the next 22 years. In 1971 she went to work at Sears Roebuck Company, Augusta, retiring in 1991.
Florence was a member of the Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell; Row House, Inc; Kennebec Valley Garden Club; Hubbard Free Library; and Hallowell Burial Ground Association. She served as Treasurer for the American Legion Post#6, Hallowell Centennial Veterans’ Monument Committee, 2010-2012.
In 2007, she and Arthur moved to a cottage at Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur R. Moore; her parents; brother, Stanley G. Trask, sister, Louise M. Perkins; son-in-law, James B. Halligan, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Norma A. Moore, and her brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Cross.
She is survived by two sons, Gregory W. Moore and wife Roberta of Midland, N.C.; two granddaughters, Jennifer A. Moore and Amy E. Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and Bradford A. Moore of Manchester, N.H.; two daughters, Laurie E. Halligan of Manchester, Maine, Traci-Lee Moore and wife Brenda Buttarazzi of Scarborough; a sister, Isabell Hall of Augusta, and sister-in-law, Janis Cross of Hallowell; and several nieces and nephews.
In honoring with Florence’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately. A graveside service will be held at the family lot in the Hallowell Cemetery.
