WATERVILLE — A bucket truck owned by Consolidated Communications caught fire Friday afternoon when a malfunction caused the bucket to come into contact with a power line, police said.
The truck was on Ridge Road when a hydraulics malfunction caused the bucket to lift and then strike the power line, according to Waterville police Sgt. Joshua Woods.
The utility truck caught fire and was destroyed. No injuries were reported. No one was in the bucket at the time.
The fire caused black smoke to billow into the air that could be seen for miles.
