WAYNE — Plans are underway for this year’s Memorial Day parade and program on Monday, May 30. The Memorial Day Committee is planning Wayne’s remembrance of its service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice with a reflection and observance, according to a news release from the committee.
Veterans, bands, boys, girls, Scouts, and anyone with a focus on honoring veterans is asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayne Community Church’s parking lot, 22 Old Winthrop Road.
The different groupings will leave the parking lot at 11 a.m. and proceed down Main Street to the corner of Pond Road, turn around and pause at the Veterans Memorial Stone on Pocasset Lake, where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place. The parade continues to Memorial Park where the program will continue.
If it rains, services will be at 11 a.m. at the Ladd Recreation Center, 26 Gott Road.
Transportation will be provided for any veterans who would like a ride in the parade. Those who would like a ride or are interested in giving veterans a ride in their vehicle can contact Holly Stevenson at 207-685-9005.
Matthew Yetishefsky, a retired Air Force colonel now living in Wayne, will be the guest speaker.
For more information, call Stevenson at 207-685-9005 or Don Welsh at 207-685-4117.
