Speaking of the Second Amendment, thank you Peter Sirois. (letter, May 15). When someone can walk into a hair salon and shoot three people, or drive four hours to kill 10 people at a supermarket, isn’t it time Congress seriously considered the issue of gun control?
The Second Amendment is a relic of the 18th century. It is high time it was amended or eliminated. Guns are not only a safety issue but are also a national health epidemic that is costing us billions of dollars.
Three hundred twenty-one people are shot and killed in this country every day. Those who wish to preserve the sanctity of life don’t seem to care how many of us are dying at the barrel of a gun.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
