SIDNEY — Two people were injured last week in a crash on Middle Road when a pickup truck tried to pass two other vehicles and collided with one that was attempting to turn left, a Kennebec County sheriff’s official said Tuesday.

James Furbush, 72, of Sidney, was driving a 1950 Chevrolet pickup north on Middle Road on Thursday when he attempted to make a left-hand turn, sheriff’s Lt. Chris Read said in an email.

Diane Lumbard, 57, of Somerville, also was driving north in a 2005 Ford pickup, which was behind a vehicle that was behind the Chevrolet.

“Lumbard began passing the two vehicles in front of her and just as vehicle 2 (the Chevrolet) made the left-hand turn, he was hit perpendicular by vehicle 1 (the Ford pickup),” Read said.

Furbush was taken to a hospital by LifeFlight of Maine and Lumbard was taken to a hospital by Delta Ambulance, according to Read, who said he did not know the extent of their injuries. He also did not name the hospitals to which they were taken.

He said the crash report was incomplete as of Tuesday, adding that Maine State Police are assisting the sheriff’s office with the reconstruction of the wreck.

The incident occurred near 3469 Middle Road, south of the intersection with Goodhue Road/Drummond Road.

Attempts to obtain information about the wreck last week were unsuccessful, as Read was out of the office and unable to provide details until this week.
