James Edward Quimby Sr.
SOLON – James Edward Quimby Sr., 70, passed away on May 19, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was born on Oct. 8, 1951, in Skowhegan, Maine to Norman Burtonand Arrietta (Everette) Quimby. Known to most as Jim. He lived most of his happy life in Solon, where he raised three children. Many people in the community will remember Jim fondly as a yodeling school bus driver for SAD #74, and a member of the Solon Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was a cheerful guy who was content with life and loved to joke around. Jim spent some years driving for Pike Industries, and the Town of Solon. When working for Pike Ind. he got to travel around the state for the week before returning home to his beloved dog Damien. Later, he would return to driving bus for Northern Outdoors, where he enjoyed being part of fun days on the river. Jim was a homebody who worked hard to support his family and contribute to his community, but he also had a quietly adventurous spirit, and over the years found time to travel around the United States, Canada, Florida, and many other places, including as far off as South America. Closer to home, he spent his free time trying his luck at Hollywood Slots. Jim took great pride in his yard work and many remember seeing him on Pleasant St., raking, mowing, or puttering in his garage enjoying a cigar. James is survived by his three loving children. James Quimby Jr. of Cornville, Maine, Timothy Quimby of Solon Maine, and Kimberly Kinney of Skowhegan Maine, and their spouses. He was loved and will be missed by seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
