Wayne A. Sylvester

SKOWHEGAN – Wayne A. Sylvester, 64, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022, with his loving, devoted wife by his side. His family was able to feel peace as they spent the last few days bringing comfort to both Wayne and each other as he passed.

Wayne was born in Mars Hill, on Dec. 11, 1957 the son to Alden and Ruth Sylvester. He graduated from Central Aroostook High School in 1976. Following high school Wayne served in the Maine Army National Guard from 1975-1987 where he was honorably discharged as an E-5 sergeant. Wayne began his employment with Hammond Lumber Company in May of 1994 where he dedicated 28 years. He was proud to work so many years directly with Donald and Michael Hammond along with all his co-workers. This was more than just a career to Wayne, Hammond Lumber Company made him feel like part of the family.

When Wayne wasn’t devoting his time to Hammond Lumber Company you could find him spoiling his grandchildren in any capacity as they brought him so much joy. He truly enjoyed fishing and being out in his boat. Jackman Landing Campground was a very special place to Wayne. He spent many summer weekends there laughing and making memories with friends and family. Wayne touched so many lives whether it was through his sly sense of humor, his stories, or his true caring personality. He will be deeply missed.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents Alden and Ruth Sylvester.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Sylvester who was not only a devoted wife but a true, loving caretaker every step of the way as Wayne was enduring countless trips to Boston for treatment and surgeries over the last nine years. She was there to support him with love and a positive attitude to keep his spirits up while recovering from his appointments. He is also survived by his children Nicole Hinkel and husband Chris, Brandon Sylvester and wife Jess, stepchildren Caleb Charrier and wife Katie, Caity Brown and husband Shawn; six grandchildren, Lane, Lakeleigh, Lucas, McKinleigh, Owen, and Ethan; four sisters, Linda Garland and husband Jim, Aldene Saucier and significant other Joel, Colleen Stitham and husband Stephen, Renae Crouse and husband Jake.

Wayne’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Wayne’s amazing team of doctors at Massachusetts’s General Hospital, specifically to Dr. Donald Lawrence, MD and Riley Fadden, CNP.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family. A celebration of life will be held on June 25 at 3:30 p.m. in “Wayne’s Garage” at 412 Russell Rd. in Skowhegan. All are welcome to stop in, enjoy some food and share your favorite stories of Wayne.
