Richard “Dick” B. Sabol

MADISON – Richard “Dick” B. Sabol, 84, of Madison, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022 in Madison at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident for the past two months.

Richard was born in Anson on April 20, 1938. A son of Andrew J. and Annie (Labun) Sabol. He grew up in Anson and was a graduate of Madison High School class of 1956. He married Claudette “Dugas “Sabol on Sept. 19, 1959. Together they had two daughters, Shelley Sabol and Catherine “Cathi “ Sabol Worster.

Richard worked for Sampson’s Grocery Store in Madison before getting into carpentry, then moving onto to start his own construction business that he continued to run well into his 70s, doing small projects for local people. He could not bring himself to fully retire. Always wanting to be out and about and on the road. He loved going to auctions with his buddies, especially Danny Brown, Dick Farina, Gene St Pete, and Marty Leblanc, to name a few. You never knew what you would see in the back of his old pickup truck riding around town or parked at Dunkin Donuts. He kept all of his treasures that he bought and what people gave him. He truly believed one day he would need it.

He was a proud member of the Madison Dunkin Donuts gang, that met daily at 4 p.m. Many laughs and great conversations were had. Solving the world’s problems with friends Jim and Linda Garland, Larry and Cindy Dunphy, Ray Tuscan and Pam Godine. A special mention to Ara Kemezys for many years, always calling Richard faithfully every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. just to talk.

By the end of each of Richard’s so called “Busy Day” he could always be found every evening, for 22 years, sitting and holding his special needs daughter, Shelley’s hand while they watched TV together at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation Center until her passing in 2018. Richard was a lifelong member of St Sebastian Church in Madison.

Richard was predeceased by both his parents; his daughter, Shelley Sabol; three sisters, Helen Sabol, Evelyn Sabol, and Theresa Sabol Belanye, four brothers, Andrew Sabol Jr., Stephen Sabol, Francis Sabol, Bernard Sabol; and a nephew, Michael Belanye.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson’s Funeral Home in Madison.
