GARDINER — State fire investigators say the fire that damaged a Gardiner home Sunday was not suspicious.
Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said via email Tuesday that the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal determined the fire was accidental, possibly electrical.
Firefighters from seven departments responded to the report shortly before 2:30 p.m. of a house fire Sunday on School Street and remained at the scene for several hours, lining the narrow streets in the older neighborhood south of downtown Gardiner. A portion of Dennis and School streets were shut off to traffic.
On Sunday, fire officials on the scene initially thought the fire had started on the back porch and traveled up the back of the home, but provided a later update to indicate the fire may have started inside. They expected the state fire marshal’s office to investigate Monday.
City records show the property is owned by Kyle Gregory and Hannah Gregory and is valued for property tax purposes at $216,900.
