Frank C. Spinney
WASHBURN/Clinton – Frank C. Spinney, 80, passed away Sept. 5, 2022, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta following a period of declining health.
He was born in Winn on May 24, 1942, the son of the late George and Leona (Fitzgerald) Spinney. Frank was a graduate of Washburn District High School, entering the United States Army Reserves after graduation. His short time in the reserves ended as his sense of duty compelled him to enlist in the United States Navy, where he served aboard USS SHANGRI LA (CVA-38) homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Fla. as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate from 1960-1964.
Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he began a lifelong career as a Union Sprinkler Fitter. His years as a Sprinkler Fitter took him and his wife Barbara to all corners of the United States where they made lifelong friends and memories. Notably, he spent considerable amounts of time in Galveston, Texas, Marseilles, Ill., and Yakima, Wash. Following a long and successful career, he settled in Clinton where he remained a member in good standing of UA Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters.
In retirement, he and Barbara spent the winters on the road traveling to see the friends and family they had throughout the country. With Barbara as the navigator, they were happiest when exploring the country in their motor home with their pets. The season of travel and visiting was always concluded with the fond return home in Maine, only after the snow had melted of course!
Frank was also a Master Mason of the 32nd degree, Shriner, and in good standing at Washburn Lodge #193 A.F.&A.M., as well as a member of the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Bangor-Portland.
Frank is survived by his sister, Dorothy McCabe of Kathleen, Ga., sister, Marsha Droese of Grand Rapids, Mich., sister, Linda Gooch of Waycross, Ga., brother, Basil “Sonny” Ward of Hattiesburg, Miss., stepsister, Alice Tarbox, of Washburn, stepbrother, Lyman Sperry of Perham, stepsister, Ruth McLaughlin of Perham; son, Rick Pelletier of Washburn; grandson, Joseph Pelletier of Kuwait, grandson, Alex Pelletier of Ledyard, Conn., granddaughter, Libby Pelletier of Bolivia, N.C., and granddaughter, Natalie Pelletier of Freeport; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
