New work created during the Maine Craft Association’s Craft Apprentice Program will be on view in the 2022 Craft Apprentice Program capstone exhibition.
The exhibition is scheduled to run through Monday, Oct. 24, at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, 103 Cochran Road in Edgecomb.
The program, developed and offered in partnership with the Maine Arts Commission, provides Maine-based mentor craft artists and apprentices the opportunity to learn, create and connect. The program is designed to advance and expand the apprentice’s craft studio practice and professional experience, according to a news release from the association, based in Gardiner.
Five mentor artist/apprentice pairs were selected for the 2022 program cycle and have worked side by side for seven months. Apprenticeships focused on foundational ceramic skills in glaze recipes, slab constructed reliquaries, wood and atmospheric kiln firing techniques, machine knit garments, and handwoven garments with a focus on naturally dyed fibers.
The opening reception, free and open to the public, will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Watershed’s Barkan Gallery, 103 Cochran Road.
The gallery is open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for the duration of the exhibit.
