University of Maine Cooperative Extension plans to offer a two-part online training for adults interested in becoming 4-H volunteers.
The training is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26.
“Start Your 4-H Volunteer Journey” will explore the ways volunteers can become involved with UMaine Extension 4-H, what the 4-H youth development program is about and requirements for becoming a volunteer. Participants will also hear from youth and volunteers currently active in Extension 4-H and do a hands-on activity together, according to a news release from the Orono-based UMaine extension office.
The training is free; registration is required by Wednesday, Oct. 12. To register, visit extension.umaine.edu.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
