Mary Ann (McPherson) Cunnion

FARMINGDALE – Mary Ann (McPherson) Cunnion, 96, of Farmingdale, died at Maine General Rehab. & Long-Term Care-Grey Birch Nursing Home on Oct. 2, 2022.

Mary was born in Hallowell, Nov. 18, 1925, the daughter of Harold L. and Alice G. (Cole) McPherson. She was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps and graduated from the Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.

She married T/Sgt. James Cunnion Oct. 19, 1950 at Lake Megantic, Quebec, Canada. They were married 61½ years. He predeceased her on April 2, 2012. Mary had been employed as a registered nurse in hospitals in the Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Illinois, and Washington while accompanying her husband in his military career in the U.S. Air Force.

Mary was a former member of the Augusta General Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Harry W. McPherson, sister Marjorie Jacobs of Mt. Vernon, sister-in-law, Patricia McPherson, brothers-in-law, William Bradley, Robert Trask, all of Hallowell and Fred Jacobs of Mt. Vernon; nephew, Mark Jacobs, of Mt. Vernon, and nieces Nancy McPherson Hammon and Kathy Jacobs Stairs.

Mary is survived by her sisters and brothers, Ruth Bradley of Hallowell, Eleanor Trask of Hallowell, Linda McPherson of Hallowell, Alice Perry and husband Eric of Hallowell, Ernest McPherson and his wife Joan of Farmingdale, John McPherson of Hallowell, and her sister-in-law Cynthia McPherson of Hallowell; her nieces and nephews, William (Carrie) Ballard, Judy Ballard (Dan Harriman), Eric (Pamela) Perry, John (Brenda) Perry, Daniel (Jennifer) Perry, Jane (Leslie Lennig) Perry; and her great nieces, Samantha Ballard, Matthew Ballard-Fookes, Hannah, Rebecca, and Matthew Perry; Cole, Sydney, Abby and Emma Perry; Grace, Marinn and Sawyer Perry; as well as several special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mary’s visiting hours will be in the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St. Augusta on Tuesday Oct. 11, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m. Followed by a service in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Hallowell Cemetery immediately following her service. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
