
Janet Faye Hilton Fletcher, 97, was honored at her Anson home Oct. 12 as the oldest resident of the town. The Anson Historical Society presented her with the ceremonial Boston Post Cane.
Present were President Sharon Mellows, Vice President Charlotte Withee, Chair Ralph Withee and Anson Administrator Tammy Murray, according to a news release from Mellows.
Fletcher was born July 19, 1925, on Hilton Hill Road in Anson; she’s resided in Anson most of her life. She attended elementary school at Garrett Schenck and graduated from Madison High School in 1943 at the age of 17. She married Hurley Fletcher that year.
They lived on Fletcher Road in Anson, moved to the Airport Road in Norridgewock for three years, and moved back to West Mills Road in Anson. She lives with her son David and his wife Mary Fletcher in Anson.
Janet and Hurley Fletcher had nine children, Gary Fletcher, Diane Fletcher Oliver, Sandra Fletcher Weese, Betty Fletcher Burpee, Linda Fletcher Sargent, Dennis Fletcher, Joan Fletcher, David Fletcher and Larry Fletcher.
She has 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
