Lucy M. (Lemelin) Barton Jones

AUGUSTA – Lucy M. (Lemelin) Barton Jones, 76, passed away at home on Oct. 15, 2022, while surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born May 30, 1946, a daughter of Henry and Irene (Arroyo) Lemelin Sr.

The second eldest of nine children, Lucy’s family moved from Colorado to Maine, and settled in Augusta. She graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1966. After high school, she married Richard Barton and became a mother to her daughter, Lisa. After Richard’s unexpected passing, she later married James P. Jones Jr. and the two added to the family with daughter, Tammy.

Lucy was a devoted employee at the Maine State Credit Union where she worked as a loan officer for 34 years before her retirement in 2003. Lucy made many friendships throughout her years there and truly enjoyed her work.

Lucy enjoyed playing bingo, traveling with her sisters, and dancing. Above all, she loved her family dearly and her favorite past times include camping with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a generous person who enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa Gleason and her husband Ed, and Tammy Sidelinger and her husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Evan Gleason and his wife Brittany, and Kyle Gleason and his wife Mickelle; three great grandchildren, Freya Lucy Gleason, Malcolm Edward Gleason, and Elias Z. Gleason; siblings, Henry “Cisco” Lemelin Jr., Cecile Studley and her husband, Robert Sr., Steve Lemelin and his wife, Dianna, Randy Lemelin and his wife Debbie, and Cheyenne Joslyn and her husband, Don, along with her sister in laws, Jackie Lemelin, Lisa Lemelin, and Eileen Lemelin; several nieces and nephews; dear friend and mentor for over 50 years, Gus Lesperance; good friend, Jeannie Barbeau; and Mikey Young, the son she never had.

She was predeceased by her parents; both husbands, Richard Barton and James Jones Jr.; and siblings, Danny Lemelin, Jay Lemelin, and Jimmy Lemelin.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the amazing nurses and staff at MaineGeneral Hospice who supported Lucy and her daughters during Lucy’s final days.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022 at 12 p.m., at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Augusta. A celebration of life will follow at the American Legion, 7 Legion Dr., Augusta.
